Every once in a while I like to try new and exotic fruits
and vegetables. The best place for me to find new things to try is at the local
Asian market. This is where I usually shop for my seaweeds, coconuts,
pineapples, Jack Fruit, varieties of papayas, mangoes cabbages, root vegetables
– and for today, Custard Apple Fruit.
The Custard Apple fruit looks like a miniature version of
the Durian fruit or Jack Fruit. The flesh is actually smoother, the flavor is
sweet like apples and custard (hence the name Custard Apple) – with no direct
relation to the Durian or Jack Fruit. This very nutritious fruit is ground in Asia ,
Australia , and Africa .
The flesh can be scooped from the skin and eaten. Just be sure to remove the
somewhat large, thick black seeds.
This recipe is a simple fruit salad topped and tossed with
delicious Custard Apple Fruit. It’s like having fruit and pudding together,
very yummy!
Ingredients:
2 Custard Apple fruits (seeded and peeled)
1 medium-sized banana (peeled and sliced)
1 kiwi (peeled and chopped)
4-6 fresh strawberries (stemmed and sliced)
1/4 cup fresh blueberries
1 T raw cacao nibs
1 T goji berries
1 T sliced raw almonds (crushed)
1/2 T hemp seeds
½ tsp bee pollen
3-5 drops chocolate flavored SweetLeaf Liquid Stevia
Preparation:
Chilled fruit works best. I recommend placing fresh fruit in
the refrigerator for at least one hour before preparing recipe.
Combine all the fresh fruit in a bowl and toss well, making
sure that the Custard Apple fruit is well incorporated.. Add in remaining
ingredients, and lightly toss. Serve chilled.
