I find
super foods super energizing. That’s why I used them so much. Although fruits
and greens by themselves make perfectly nutritional and delicious smoothies,
super foods can give it that extra kick. There is a wide variety of super foods
to try. All come from amazing plant life from various parts of the world.
Nowadays you can find most of these wonderful super foods at your local natural
grocery store, and most definitely online. Here are some of the main super foods I’ll
be using in today’s smoothie recipe:
Maca root
has been growing high in the Andes Mountains for hundreds of years. I’ve read
several articles that claim maca to be one of the most powerful medicinal
plants on earth. Maca has an overwhelming amount of vitamins and minerals. It’s
best known for regulating brain function, hormone levels, and helps with libido
for both men and women. Maca is found in powdered form.
Camu fruit
has up to 60 times more Vitamin C than the orange, and is considered to have
more Vitamin C than any other plant in the world. It also contains certain
amino acids that support the immune system, as well as act as an astringent,
antioxideant, andti-inflammatory, and an antidepressant. Camu can be found in
powdered form, and as a commercially processed juice.
Lucuma is a
natural nutrient dense sweetener, containing high levels of cartone, and
Vitamin B3, a good source of
carbohydrates, fiber and iron. Lucuma comes in powdered form.
Suma root
is a vine found in the tropical forests of South America . It is known for its amazing
healing properties and disease preventive qualities that are similar to that of
Ginseng. Suma helps regulate digestion, the nervous system, and the
cardiovascular system. It’s known to improve the immune system, and promote
cell regeneration. Suma lowers blood sugar and blood pressure, as well as
cholesterol. It is an analgesic, and an anti-inflammatory. Suma is found in
powdered form.
Cordyceps
Mushrooms are considered a medicinal fungi. It has been used in traditional
Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Cordyceps have been used to treat
coughs, fatigue, and even cancer.
Bee Pollen
is the actual pollen that bees collect from the flowers to take back to their
hives and use as food. It provides the body with vitamins, minerals, proteins,
amino acids, enzymes, fats, and it’s high in antioxidant activity. It is good
for the digestion by destroying harmful bacteria and is easy to digest. The
benefits of bee pollen are endless!
Vanilla is
best known as an aphrodisiac and digestive stimulant.
Stevia is
300 times sweeter than table sugar and great for teeth. It has zero calories,
zero carbohydrates, and zero glycemic so it’s perfect for weight control, and
regulating blood sugar levels.
Hemp is the
optimum balance for human health based on it’s high content of fiber, protein,
and specifically it’s essential fatty acids (EFA’s).
Chia Seeds
are one of the most powerful and nutritious super foods to eat. It’s an
excellent source of fiber, rich in antioxidants and protein, and full of
vitamins and minerals. Chia seeds boost energy, reduce cravings, and are easy
to digest.
Cacao nibs
are the small pieces of the cacao bean. Cacao is considered one of the best
sources of natural magnesium, and is a super rich antioxidant. Although cacao
is known for its healing qualities, there is still much controversy surrounding
its true healthful impact. Regardless, I love chocolate, and raw cacao is
definitely superior to any processed chocolate you will ever experience!
